Alvin Ailey’s *Revelations* is a modern dance work built from African American spirituals, gospel, and blues, tracing a passage from grief to communal release. First performed in New York City in 1960, it became central to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s identity and helped carry Black church traditions onto major concert stages. Now the New York–based company brings the ballet to NJPAC, extending its repertory beyond its Manhattan home. Its clearest strength is its plain-spoken structure, which lets ritual and memory do the talking.
