Arts of Oceania

Presented at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, *Arts of Oceania* brings together objects from across the Pacific—Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia—made for ceremony, exchange, and daily life. The installation frames these works as active cultural records rather than anonymous “tribal” art, a corrective long overdue in U.S. museum culture. In an NYC context, it extends the Met’s ongoing reckoning with how Pacific materials entered Western collections and how they are named, dated, and displayed. What matters here is the insistence on specificity: makers, places, and uses, not just form.
