About New York City Center
New York City Center sits on West 55th Street in Midtown Manhattan, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. The building opened in 1924, first commissioned by the Shriners before later becoming a city-owned performing arts venue with a main theater of roughly 2,000 seats. Today it is closely associated with dance and musical theater, serving as a home base for the annual Encores! series and the Fall for Dance Festival, and as a longtime venue for Manhattan Theatre Club productions. Its history remains legible in the scale and geometry of the auditorium.
