Samuel J. Friedman Theatre
About Samuel J. Friedman Theatre
The Samuel J. Friedman Theatre stands at 261 West 47th Street in Midtown Manhattan’s Theater District. Opened in 1925, the 650-seat house was designed by Herbert J. Krapp in a neo-Renaissance mode, and its auditorium interior is protected as a New York City landmark. It is operated by Manhattan Theatre Club and is closely associated with contemporary plays and new work developed for Broadway. The building’s layered history reads in its intimate scale, which keeps attention fixed on performance rather than spectacle.
