Walter Kerr Theatre
About Walter Kerr Theatre
The Walter Kerr Theatre stands at 219 West 48th Street in Midtown Manhattan’s Theater District, a working Broadway house with a long record of straight plays and musical productions. It opened in 1921, designed by Herbert J. Krapp for the Shubert organization, and later took the name of critic Walter Kerr in 1990. The auditorium seats about 975 across three tiers, with two balconies and restrained classical detailing. From the street, its patterned brick front reads as functional rather than showy, an apt frame for evenings that keep attention on the stage.
