Staten Island Children’s Museum sits on the Snug Harbor Cultural Center grounds in Staten Island, New York. Opened in 1976, it focuses on hands-on, interactive exhibits and workshops for children and families, with an emphasis on learning through play and making. Out front, a large metal praying mantis sculpture named Francis has become a familiar landmark for visitors arriving on the campus. The setting places a kid-centered institution inside one of the borough’s larger cultural complexes, where school groups and weekend audiences overlap.
