Studio 54 sits at 254 West 54th Street in Midtown Manhattan, now operating as a Broadway theatre under the Roundabout Theatre Company. The building opened in 1927 as an opera house and later functioned as a television broadcast studio before its late-1970s life as a nightclub. Roundabout renovated the venue for theatrical use in 1998, and it now presents Broadway plays and musicals in a room that still carries traces of its earlier stage-and-studio design. Its layered past can be felt in the way the space frames performance.
